New York City Medical Examiner: Joey Boots Died of Heroin Overdose

It seems Artie Lange wasn’t the only personality attached to the Stern Show with a substance abuse issue. Former Howard Stern Show regular and “Wack Packer” Joey Boots passed away on December 23, 2016 at the age of 49. Now his death has been ruled a heroin overdose by the New York City medical examiner.

Joey Boots, whose real name was Joseph Bassolino, died in his Bronx apartment. He was found dead by fellow Wack Pack member High Pitch Erik while recording a live podcast, TMZ reported.

Joey was a veteran, serving in the military for six years. After leaving the military, he struggled with PTSD. He also stated that he was “depressed,” but being a part of The Howard Stern Show made him feel good.

The death was determined to be accidental, caused by “acute heroin intoxication,” Julie Bolcer, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner, said on Monday. Nicole Bass, 52, another “Wack Pack” member, died last month on February 17, 2017. The former bodybuilder and WWF wrestler from Queens went brain dead after suffering a heart attack and was subsequently taken off of life support. We have lost so many Stern Show regulars during the past couple of years.
